FIFA Women's World Cup 2007
The fifth edition of the Women's World Cup was played in China in September 2007. Originally China was to host the 2003 competition but this was moved to the United States because of the SARS outbreak in China. In recompense the Chinese Football Association was promised the 2007 tournament.
Unlike the 1991 World Cup where all the matches were played in Guangdong Province this tournament was played in five cities across eastern and central China, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Tianjin and Chengdu, reflecting the growing importance of the competition. The first two rounds of group matches were all played as double headers.
